Rev. Stephanie Butler



Rev. Stephanie Butler is an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She holds undergraduate degrees in Journalism (B.S.) and Dance (B.A.) from the University of Maryland, and post graduate (M.A.Th.) in Theology from the United Theological College, W.I. Prior to her transition from professional dance performance and corporate consulting, to full-time ministry 11 years ago, Stephanie submitted to the tutelage of some of the best choreographers, dancers, and movement analysts across the Nations, in a variety of technical dance genres. Her life and ministry is now submitted to Jesus Christ, as evidenced through leadership and discipleship across the globe, activism for the disadvantaged, liberty to the spiritually bound, healing to the brokenhearted, and a lifestyle of holiness.

Rev. Stephanie serves dually in the U.S. and Jamaica where she is founder of Spirit of Praise Sacred Artistry, International and the appointed Regional Consultant on Missions & Outreach for the 16th Episcopal District AME Church.

Through Spirit of Praise Intl., Stephanie’s work is recognized worldwide spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and extensively throughout the Caribbean for her in-depth teaching on choreography, dance theology, Arts-evangelism, liturgical worship, cross-cultural outreach ministry, and the preached Word. Her first book, My Body is the Temple: Encounters and Revelations of Sacred Dance & Artistry published in 2002 is a best seller in the category of Christian Arts. Her second published work is entitled, Breathe, Balance, and STRETCH: Movement Meditations & Daily Devotionals for Living, Xulon Press Publications, July 2006. Rev. Stephanie is the creator and host of MORNING MEDITATIONS©—a weekly television broadcast in Kingston, Jamaica which focuses on spirituality, fitness, and healthy living from the inside out. Her most recent work includes her third book, PROVOCATIVE PRAISE (Salem Publishers), along with a follow-up Group Study Guide for My Body is the Temple. She is director of the Troupe of David Liturgical Dancers at Chapel of Christ A.M.E. Church in Jamaica, and provides long-term consultation to 12 additional ministries worldwide.

As Consultant on Missions & Outreach for the 16th Episcopal District and Episcopal Staff Member, Rev. Stephanie coordinates a variety of public events, mission initiatives, evangelism strategies, and liturgical dance ministries throughout the District, which covers Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Windward Islands, London/Holland, Suriname-Guyana. Her role leads her to poverty-stricken inner cities, rural villages, orphanages, mental institutions, hospitals and prisons that cross many cultures, religions, and traditions. Rev. Butler has personally assisted in planting 5 new congregations during her 7-year tenure in the Caribbean. She recently completed The 16th Episcopal District AME Church Team Missions & Evangelism Manual for the purpose of equipping the Kingdom with a new generation of missionaries.

Rev. Stephanie has had the honor of serving in mission and ministry under the prestigious Episcopal Leadership of her mentors Bishop John & Rev. Dr. Cecilia Bryant, Bishop William DeVeaux, Bishop Carolyn Tyler Guidry, Bishop Sarah Frances Davis, and Bishop Peter & Dr. Patricia Morgan of Kingston City Church.
